Getting to Belize

All international flights land in Belize City from there you can take a local airline to many of the tourist destinations within Belize.  There are two local airlines Tropic Air Ltd and Maya Island Air. You can also get to San Pedro and Caye Caulker by ferry but it requires taking a cab from the airport and you cannot make reservations in advance.  Many of the mainland hotels and lodges have ground transfers from the airport. If you are staying on the mainland you can also rent a car but be sure it is 4 wheel drive since most of the roads are dirt and can be very difficult to travel on when it rains.  Roads in Belize are very poorly marked so unless you have traveled here before we don’t recommend renting a car.

From the United States there are several airlines that fly to Belize.

American and Continental are the most consistent with flights everyday of the week all year. American has flights from Miami and Dallas. Continental flies out of Houston usually two flights a day.

Delta and US Air also fly to Belize City but they don’t fly everyday of the week it depends on the time of the year.  Delta flies from Atlanta and Us Air flies out of Charlotte, so if you are not flying from one of these four cities you will have a connecting flight.

A passport is required for entry in to Belize it should be valid for at least 6 months from the date of travel. If you are traveling on a passport from the United States, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, most European and Caribbean countries a Visa is not required. Please check with the Belize Embassy if you are unsure.
